What we repair.
All common mechanical seal designs, from simple elastomer bellows to multi-part cartridges. Lapping seal faces, renewing secondary seals, replacing springs: all done in-house.
Rubber bellows seals
On rubber bellows seals, the elastomer bellows usually ages faster than the seal faces. We renew it and tell you whether the material suits the medium.

Single-spring seals
Single-spring seals usually come from water and wastewater pumps, and the spring looks like it. We check it for corrosion and breakage and recondition the seal faces.

Multi-spring seals
On multi-spring seals the small springs clog and the closing force becomes uneven. We check each one individually, and the same for cartridge and API designs.

On wave spring seals the preload is usually lost before the seal faces are worn out. We measure, recondition and return them ready to fit.

On metal bellows seals the bellows is the sensitive part, cracks show first at the corrugation edges. We test it for tightness and only then decide between repair and replacement.

Cartridge seals
Cartridges arrive as a closed unit, the damage is inside. We dismantle them, inspect every component individually and return the unit reassembled to size.

Agitator seals
Agitator seals come single or double, with barrier pressure or quench, top or bottom entry. We repair them, even if no documents exist for the installed part any more.

Custom designs rarely come with documents, often from older plants and with special shafts. We measure the part and make what can no longer be sourced.

The honest answer depends on the condition. That is why we inspect free of charge before you decide. As a rule of thumb:
- Cartridges, double seals and custom designs with a high new-part value
- Wear on seal faces: lapping in-house instead of a complete replacement
- Agitator and large seals with long new-part lead times
- Older plants for which the original part no longer exists
- Inexpensive standard designs in common shaft diameters
- A damaged seal body or distorted components
- Material combinations that never suited the medium
- Repeated failure, then we first clarify the cause
Our workshop does not live from repairing everything, but from giving the right recommendation. That is why every inspection also includes the new-part option with a price.
No longer repairable? Then the equivalent new part.
If the inspection shows that repair does not pay off, the quote for a new part is included directly, as an equivalent to the installed brand or as a technically better alternative:

How much does mechanical seal repair cost?
The inspection is free, then you receive a fixed quote. Depending on design and condition, repair typically costs 40–60 % of the new-part price, in suitable cases you save up to 70 %. You only decide once price and scope are in black and white.
Is repair always worth it?
No, and we tell you so openly. With heavy wear on seal faces and secondary seals, or with very inexpensive standard designs, a new part can be more economical. The free inspection provides the basis for the decision, not sales arguments.
How does sending in work?
Informally: pack the seal securely, enclose a contact person and reference and send it to LuWo-Seal Dichtungstechnik GmbH, Langwieder Hauptstraße 2–4, 81249 Munich, Germany. After receipt we inspect it free of charge and get back to you with the result.
How long does a repair take?
That depends on design, condition and spare parts availability. The fixed quote always states a concrete date. If a plant of yours is down, tell us: then we prioritise the inspection.
Which brands do you repair?
All common brands, plus OEM seals from pumps. We work independently of manufacturers and repair seals from EagleBurgmann®, John Crane®, Flowserve®, AESSEAL®, Roten®, Latty® and others, as well as seals from Alfa Laval®, Fristam®, Bornemann® and Hilge/GEA® pumps. We name brands only to identify the installed part.
What happens if the seal cannot be repaired?
Then the inspection comes with a direct quote for the equivalent new part, as an equivalent to the installed brand or as a technically better alternative. The inspection stays free in any case.
Do I get the seal back tested?
Yes. Every repaired seal passes the final inspection in our QM system to DIN EN ISO 9001 and comes back ready to fit with a documented test result.
Can you label the repaired seal with our material number?
Yes. On request the seal comes back with labels showing your own material, SAP or stock number, in addition to the LuWo item reference. You send in the original part from another manufacturer and get back a ready-to-fit part that is assigned to your stock straight away at goods receipt. For maintenance companies, pump service firms, plant builders and OEMs we can ship neutrally on request.
Do you also repair pumps?
No, we are sealing specialists: we repair, supply and identify mechanical seals and seal-related components. This focus is the reason for our in-house depth in repair.
How do I send in the mechanical seal correctly?
Leave it in its original state and do not dismantle it. The inspection needs the unchanged damage pattern. As a rule you do not need to clean it: for harmless media we do that as part of the free inspection. Only if the part was in contact with hazardous, toxic or corrosive media, send it in free of residues and enclose a short, informal declaration of decontamination; if the medium cannot be removed completely, please call us first.
